Background Information
Environmental Justice is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement laws, regulations, and policies. Numerous studies have shown that Black and Hispanic communities in the US are often exposed to higher proportion of air pollution, toxic waste sites, landfills, lead poisoning, and other industrial complexes compared with their white counterparts because they are constrained to live near hazardous pollution.
