Project topic: Feminist Media Histories

Project topic: Feminist Media Histories

Write an original research paper thesis (identified as such) and associated keyword, description of the specific site, and a synopsis of the projects. Your proposal should identify a specific site (a website, a hashtag, a television episode, a small photography series, or …) and a focused thesis so that we can best support your project. Please see the pinned description of a thesis. I have listed full instructions but the bold is all I need.
Please remember that the site that you identify will remain the object of analysis for the paper
The research paper must be at least 5
full pages and numbered (6 with the required cover sheet) and no longer than 10 pages.
They should be double-spaced using Times New Roman 12, one-inch borders, and no
long or block quotes. Papers should employ at least seven academic sources, including at
least five academic sources not in the syllabus. At least one of your academic sources not
in the syllabus should come from the journals listed below. At least one of your academic sources not in the syllabus should come from the following
journals that are available through the Tulane ejournals and that offer excellent texts on
our areas of examination:
Feminist Media Histories
Feminist Media Studies
Convergence: The International Journal of Research into New Media Technologies
Information, Communication & Society
New Media & Society
Television & New Media
Instructions: Research a hashtag or other social media intervention that conveys a particular
position on the body. You should define the key term in your research project while
maintaining a focused thesis. Remember to provide particular quotes and brief
descriptions of this social media practice as they are related to the aspect of the body that
you are studying. Make sure that you have a well-constructed argument about this media
text and provide a thesis and detailed analysis rather than briefly discussing many topics.
You should also use a variety of academic research sources to support your argument and
explain how the body is portrayed.

Paper assessment:
Course Goals and Learning Outcomes:
i. Critically understand conceptions of the body and related theories.
ii. Upon completion of the course, students will research a communication topic,
form, or theme from a variety of perspectives or levels of analysis and present
the results in a coherent, effective, and meaningful form.
Your paper will be assessed on how it meets the learning outcomes and assignment
(correct number of pages, correct font and other formatting expectations, correct citation
practices, correct number of academic citations).
Your paper will also be assessed based on the following successful practices:
Well-crafted thesis
Good use of citations
Thoughtful analysis throughout
Successful use of textual analysis
Effective organization of paragraphs and ideas
Academic literature is well organized and incorporated into arguments
Referenced authors are used to develop ideas and textual analysis
Your paper will also be assessed based on characteristics that can be improved. Reading
these criteria while writing your paper may help you to improve it:
Confusing or missing thesis
Did not address suggestions made on proposal
Not enough academic citations or citations are of a poor quality (thesis, proceedings, and
random online material instead of published journal articles and books from scholars with
PhDs).
Quotations should be brief and employed to extend your argument
Academic literature could be better organized and incorporated into arguments
Develop argument beyond that of referenced author
Check correct formatting for citations
Typos, grammatical errors, and awkward or confusing sentence construction
Avoid repeating same argument
Remember to connect arguments and ideas and focus on a few examples
Does not meet page limit
A successful research paper is organized and offers clear indications of your subject and
argument. Your paper should include the following components in the order outlined:
1. A cover page with the paper title and the same thesis that is stated in the research
paper.
2. An opening paragraph or two where you describe the site as it relates to your argument
and introduce your thesis. A thesis is the focused main research paper argument and
should not include disparate elements or a list of ideas.
3. Two or three paragraphs where you outline and connect the critical literature on the
topic. This “literature review” should include brief mentions of or notations about how it
relates to your site of examination and argument. These referenced academic texts can be
on the same site as your research study (research on eBay would cite the scholarship on
eBay). It can also be literature on the critical concept you are examining (research on
community would cite the scholarship on community). There does not have to be
scholarship on your exact site or idea. You can critically engage scholarship or use a
section of an article to develop your idea.
4. A series of paragraphs where you develop but do not repeat your arguments. These
paragraphs should employ close reading and academic literature as a means of supporting
your thesis. They should develop the idea in a connected and organized fashion.
