The theory’s primary assumption is that complex systems comprise multiple systems, and complex
systems arising from other systems’ interactions. Wilkinson (2011) stipulates that the theory’s
assumption is that an individual’s challenges and problems are symptomatic of interactional and
structural problems in larger systems.
What are the theory’s key concepts?
The key concepts are that a system is greater parts’ summation. Smaller systems sum up to develop a
greater complex system with different characteristics. However, the whole system explains the
complex characteristics in the system that affect emergent behaviors. The theory postulates that
factors such as family, friends, socioeconomic factors, and environment influence individual
behaviors. Social structures are the primary factors that affect individual development since they
comprise elements that positively or negatively impact behaviors.

The theory’s focus is the systems that contribute to individual behaviors and welfare. For instance, the

situations. The theory considers the interdependent and interrelated parts that develop the system that
affects individuals.

The theory explains that factors that work in a system influence behavior. For instance, individuals
